Dell is the least bad of the major OEM manufacturers, IMO. HP sucks dreadfully.

All of the major OEMs outsource all or most of their support, which is a major source of problems with quality. The call center contractor, such as Getronics here in Houston, makes money per support call, which encourages the "hose and close" method of support. Many contractors pay their support techs a "base" pay, plus incentive pay. The incentive is get off the call within 15 minutes or your "incentive pay" is penalized. You get canned responses, and if nothing works, insert the restore cd and have a good day. Terrible work if you have to do it, especially if you are a conscientious worker. Email support is little better, usually cut and paste responses from support articles already printed on the OEM's website. HP is horrible about this. If you ever want to experience the height of absurdity, try HP email support when their scripted responses don't cover the problem. Hilarious.

Glad I don't have to do that work anymore.
