I do some journalism.

The problem is that most of the data is meaningless. It is a delusion to think that anyone is really interested in most peoples' private lives, or that the government has the resources to digest most of the information that is available, much less to obtain that information which is not already digitized in the form of credit scores, bank account numbers, or whatever. It has long been possible to find dirt on limited targets, and, in that respect, not much has changed. The program Poindexter ran was an early alert program, that was designed to look for patterns that would attract attention, precisely because it is worthless to pore over the mass of information available to interpret, without some kind of triage.

I do not know if I will read that links, since I have some acquaintance with the subject, but perhaps I will...........
