If you have to, stay in the far right lane when traffic gets really thick. It won't last forever and you could save your life. Everything you see on the road is called a hazard, including you, and it is those hazards that cause accidents. The guy in a great rush (usually a young punk) is the worse kind of road hazard there is.

I understand that you want to pass the slow guys too, but when one of these maniacs enters your space get out of his way as quickly as possible. There is a good possibility that he will do the stupidest and least expected thing to pass you. Calling the cops won't get you anywhere.

You don't usually need to avoid big rigs because of irresponsible drivers (although I've seen a few) but rather to ensure that you don't get hit by dislodged cargo or a rock through your windshield, (a lady in Seattle on I-5 was killed by a rock that came dislodged from underneath a cement truck....it was like a bullet), a tire that blows or any sudden lane change he may have to make because of other drivers forcing him into that kind of maneuver. Not to mention you must be aware that these rigs have more than a few blind spots, and sometimes they just can't see you.

Another good thing to remember is that it takes a full car length for every 10 mph you travel to stop an automobile. It takes twice that length between vehicles for the big rigs.

I do most of the driving in our house.
