The Purpose of Terrorism is not to kill people, maim them or destroy things.

geode Not unlike several on this thread have demonstrated how they can be played like a fiddle by terrorists and still blame the US government.

The purpose of terrorism is to apply a certain degree of serious threat to a populace and thereby having the populace demand protection from their government. In order to offer a degree of added security to it's people, which is the governments duty, they are confronted by a nearly invisible enemy that has developed with or was introduced to the population. A very difficult task. In reaction to the demand for protection and in order to promote commerce and the general welfare the state is forced to apply more invasive investigative procedures as well as more constricting measures of control within the public domain.

This causes degrees of what some perceive as oppression and resist, while others see it as security and lend patience.

Enemies of the state and malcontents seize on this opportunity to exploit the delicate position of the government. Whether they see themselves as victims or not, they are the affect the terrorists desire. To effectively use the target governments people against the government itself. The government is then torn between affecting security and reacting to it's aggravated groups of vocal citizenry. The terrorist is then in the position of receive through a greater appeasement, demands that are their not representative of their minority or even dwarflike numbers.

This is my knowledge of terrorism and it is derived from my education and experience in such matters. I am certainly not claiming expertise in the matter of all terrorism, but certainly only explaining the nature of the beast.

This is not a new idea. I would suggest those who have contrary thoughts regarding what I have written, use a similar zeal researching terrorism as they do arguments against their own government. Hit Google for "Purpose" or "How Terrorism works". The rules weren't changed on 9/11. The rules are the same, no matter who is in office.

When you see the political debate, at times, politicians step over the line, but quickly retrace on this issue. Why? Because they do know, it is a very serious issue. A very real issue.
