Thanks for your remarks, David.

My 'old' system is a Dell Dimension 4400 with 1 40gig
HD 7200, 512meg menory, and a 1.55mz CPU.

I do many compiles a day on an application which runs to
about 90,000 lines of Borland Delphi code. I must say I am more than pleased with every aspect of the compiles which run maybe 4-5 seconds each.

The data I have accumulated over 6 years of daily market data downloading for 5500 stocks for about 100 variables per day has reulted in 230,000 files on this PC.

So any improvement in hardware or software relating to file handling would be helpful.

When I run the application, one instance of my model can
use 40meg of memory. It would be nice to be running 2 instances. The Microsoft browser runs to 20meg per instance
& I cane be runing 4-6 instances to get Yahoo financial details (or charts) for one or several stocks. Then email, a 3rd party charting program, Schwab software for trading and various other small utilities, and I can be running 300meg plus.

Going to Linux as I plan and wanting to plan for future
needs I figure something more that 512meg might be indicated.

The vendor charges $73 additional to go from 512 to 768meg,
while going to 1024meg would be $197 additional.

Are there any negatives to 1024meg over 512 in terms of
Booting time of log off time, or unreliability?

There is an option for GF4 MX64 MB AGP video card w/TV out at a cost of $63 over the vanilla card. The improvement
for this might not be more than minimal, I figure..
