well, I probably wouldn't buy 64 bits if I were you, unless it is within $100 of the 32-bit alternative (and it might be- the AMD 64 bit chip is only $200 which is less than a lot of P4s).

I was very dissatisfied with my last dell computer. The support was awful and the CDs have fans in them that sound like airplanes taking off. I just let it go because I don't use the CDs all that much and calling support was such a disaster. The speakers didn't work when I first got the system either. I'm not going to buy another Dell. I have decided my next machine will be the systemax brand from this vendor www.tigerdirect.com, which is their house brand and they are the #3 or #4 PC vendor - Dell, HP, eMachines and then tigerdirect according to my info.

One thing you should consider is downloading openoffice.org, or buying open office from Amazon or Star office from Amazon. These run on winXP. This gives you an alternative to ms Word which imho is almost unusable now. Another open source which is a huge improvement in app is Mozilla vs IE.

After I started using open office and mozilla I now realize I want to go total SuSE which IS available in 64 bits and you never know, next year you might make that decision too so it doesn't hurt to buy 64 bits since it is the same price. My ms office software is still slow and 64 bits speeds up those apps. Unfortunately I just bought this computer a few mos ago so I can't use the SuSE 64 bits, I regret buying this computer now.
