You should always shoot for higher RAM. I will go for 2GB of RAM. This way you create temp file in RAM also. Once your temp drive is in RAM, it will significantly improve performance.

1GB RAM costs $200, you might want to get base RAM. And then fill up all the slots with 1GB RAM each.
