If the total market this year is 3 billion, then SNDK has roughly 30% (1 Billion) market share. Now if Samsung has market share of 65%, this is about 2 billion. This leaves nothing for Toshiba. The numbers don't add up. Can anyone here explain this?

The numbers in the following extract from post #24425 were reported earlier. These numbers also indicate SanDisk sales are not included when in comes time to calculating market share. Hence for the numbers to make sense, only manufacturers of flash memory are counted when determining market share. Toshiba and Samsung are classified as manufacturers and SanDisk is not classified as a manufacturer. The NAND flash memory chips supplied by Toshiba and Samsung to SanDisk and sold by Sandisk are in included in Toshiba's and Samsung's market share.

"Toshiba now controls about 40% of the global flash memory chip market with its NAND flash memory. Samsung expects its share to rise sharply to 66% by 2005 from 28% this year. Together, the two companies supply some 90% of NAND-type flash memory products."
