Works like a charm:

I went over to Best Buy and picked up a Belkin USB 2.0 5-port PCI Card (about $50) and plugged it in.

XP OS recognized and installed without a hitch.

Phenomenal improvement in back up speeds (from about 18 MB/min to 204MB/min). Same back up of recent work (388MB) that took about 3 hours yesterday took total of 28 minutes - 25:45 scan followed by 2:14 of writing to HD.

Noticed my Wacom stuff plugged in to this port also functions much better.

Great inexpensive performance upgrade. Thanks again for the tip. Sure beats clunky tapes drives that I used to have or even sitting around with a handful of CDs.

Will post again if there is better performance with software upgrade.
