There is the production and sale of the flash memory chips (wafers) which go into the manufacture of flash memory cards. Often, these terms are used interchangeably but they are not.

I did read the previous post 24425. That was talking about market share of the chips (wafers). I am talking about market share of Flash Cards (final product) and so was Eli.

When Eli was talking on Bloomberg, he and the interviewer were both referring to market share of Flash Memory Cards (final products) even though the words chips were incorrectly used instead of cards at one point.

As I understand it, Toshiba and Samsung both manufacture the wafers as well as assemble the cards (end product). Sandisk buys the wafers from Samsung and has a joint venture with Toshiba to manufacture the wafers for use by both Toshiba and Sandisk. As well Sandisk has wafers manufactured by TSM.

Please correct me if this is not the case.

So the question is, what is the market share of Flash Memory Cards (final product) do each of these 3 companies have at this time (not 2005)?

Also does Toshiba have separate chip FABS in addition to the joint one with SNDK that it uses to manufacture flash chips (wafers)?

Anybody know for sure?
