<<compassionate conservatism at its best -- a market-driven approach allowing supply and demand to get together in the labor market.">>

Interesting that someone is focusing on the money illegals pay in SS taxes that they never receive. What about all the illegals that receive benefits and work off the books. I suspect the net impact of social services by illegals is negative by far. They use far more than they contribute.

But my guess is that with all things considered we the American taxpayer and stock holders are benefiting by these workers being exploited.

Why the hell should temporary workers have political power?

I prefer a program that provides temporary work visas for immigrants, enforces the minimum wage and benefits, and provides highly punitive penalties against companies that employ undocumented workers. Also part of the program should be strenuous efforts to deport any illegal who cannot find a job and gain a work visa.

Arguments that people who entered illegally should not be rewarded, they should be deported fail to realize the implications of this position.

If by magic we could deport with the wave of a hand all the illegals the economy would be shocked.

Who would pick the farm produce?

Who would take care of the kids and elders in thousands of homes with illegal house maids, caregivers, landscapers?

Who would drive the taxi's?

Who would do the thousand other menial jobs being done off the books by illegals?

A transition needs to be made were the presently exploited are brought onto the legal payrolls. We will see how many of these jobs are still available when their employers have to pay for real wages and benefits.
