Hawk, I am not using it as an excuse. If you are viewing it that way then I suggest you back off a bit since nothing will be solved by anger and prejudice.

When Muhammad was converting the bedouins this is what was prevalent in the desert tribes. So he had to move in slowly with them. He couldn't just go in and say no more 4 wives. Instead he introduced the system of dowry. And so on.

Hawk, the last thing we want this to turn out is making it some kind of a religious. It is not a war between Christians and Muslims. Although the Muslim extremists would like it to be that way. At least the civilized world, I hope would succeed in keeping the Christian extremists at bay. Religious fanaticism would get us nowhere, much less make US a safer place.
