Does your TDK DVD have software by adaptec--maybe need drivers for it.-

there is a firmware upgrade for a particular model of that DVD-

suggestion if you like to fiddle - can you put in an older CD burner and see if you get a blue screen. Most folks like two CD players anyway.

Put your problem in TDK's support forum -- there's one for Windows ME (external DVD) -- might be similar.
