Wstr,
For arguments sake, I will take on the mantra of the loyal opposition and ask you this question.
If we continued to "contain" Iraq, and committed the additional forces used in iraq to afganistan and the hunt for bin laden, would be in better or worse shape today?
That is how the Hillary wing of the party will spin things in 08 or in 04 if still possible. The problem with the left of the dem party is that they would have been opposed to any more action in afganistan. Betcha most of them despite the rhetoric are opposed to the war in afganistan as well. Many of them probably think we caused bin laden and so we got what we deserved. As a new yorker, plenty of the liberals here adopted that view soon after 9/11. You know, "no war for oil", bush/ashcroft as anti islam facists, cult of saddam and a new version of holocaust denial for our time and you see this in the shrinking numbers killed by saddam in their view. I guess i got away from my initial premise. mike
