Crossy,

To my knowledge, the software used in semiconductor fabs can be categorized into the following areas:

. material planning and scheduling
. lot scheduling/dispatching/tracking
. equipment scheduling and status tracking
. recipe management (for processes on equipments)
. engineering/quality data collection and analysis
. supervisor monitoring, alarms and alerts
. automated processes and automation
...

CSIM is strong in some of those aspects. For example, all the aspects with semiconductor lots, equipment scheduling and status tracking, recipe management, and engineering data collection and analysis. I know Oracle and SAP also want to come into the MES area. Another competitor is a young company called Fastech. An old competitor in Asia is Promise (the company is actually based in Canada). CSIM's products is the most complete one in the industry. There are other smaller players who provide solutions at the material planning or automation interface level (SECS II).

CSIM is now in the system integration business, they are supposed to put together all the hardware and software together as a turn key solution for their customers. Perhaps they are working with materinal planning and scheduling vendors and automation vendors to come up with a total solution. The best situation for everyone would be to utilize a standard set of APIs and objects for all different systems from different vendors to communicate with each other.

Regards,
-Mike
