1. Bush big govt based on tax cuts, dereg, privatization of some public programs which after is what the dems claim the medicare bill is all about.
To argue that bush is FOR big deficits is wrong--its just that he and greenspan understood the real damage that deflation was doing to the economy and were prepared to jack it up even if the cost was some higher inflation down the road. I tend to agree with this analysis but remain committed to balanced budgets and lower total national debt down the road.
2. Dean big govt based on tax increases, repeal of lower income and middle income tax cuts, reregulation, more public programs (even single payer health care down the road)
3. Bush fp based on his belief that we are at war. Dean doesnt really accept the premise and therefore his alternative is logical if you believe we are not in a war, but just adapting to crisis' as in the cold war.
4. With the exception of guns, dean is a cultural liberal and bush a cultural conservative. That involves issues like abortion, stem cell research, gay marriage, etc.

MSI,
I think we will have a pretty clear choice. What i dont understand in your view(neocon phobia) "the radicals controlling the GOP want to take over the world". I see it as simply defeating an enemy. When FDR and Churchill plotted strategy did they want to take over the world? It certainly could have been construed as such. Churchill wanted the empire back and FDR thought that 5 or 6 key countries could govern the world thru the UN. Sounds like the euro view of today.
I think what you are really saying is that you think the war in iraq was unnecessary, the president got bad advice, that we could have contained them, and at the same time redoubled the effort against al quaeda. That is certainly a legit alternative view but if you think that is howard deans policy, think again.
What you(and dean) should be looking at is now that we are in iraq, how best to make this a success. What to do now is something dean doesnt address because he hasnt a clue. I would be interested in what you have to say about that as i consider you to be thoughtful on this topic. mike
