I was thinking maybe he would create a new category of folks with work permits and enable illegals with jobs to apply for that category, not the same as green cards, but something less. That might not be too bad. Better than amnesty. Amnesty is too forgiving, IMO.

I wish we would also, while we're at it, change the criteria for accepting immigrants. Sensible countries focus their immigration on folks who bring something with them besides a strong back. With our current policy, what they ending up bringing is a few hundred of their closest relatives. I would prefer that we take more people from outside the Americas and more people with skills. We have plenty of people who can wash dishes.
