Concerning the sequence data of the three isolates that were deposited in GenBank, I wonder what the read error rate was. A problem with GenBank submissions is that read errors do exist, sometimes at surprising and very important DNA segments. This type of data requires intense scrutiny, on multiple independent reads of the the same subsequence (after all there are 29,715 bases in the genome). I know of several instances of such in human cDNAs present.

Concerning the transmissiblity to humans of more human-like civet cat isolates than the originals, that discussion is speculation without knowing the details (show me the data). This type of data is very intensive to collect, and then one must do infectivity and longevity studies to define the phenotype in the right host cells.
