Why do these articles on Dean and religion and the South always have a patronizing tinge? The term that should be used about Dean's approach to religion-and-the-South is hypocrite. Another area where Dean will have problems is the fact that you don't, and may never, see his wife doing the usual candidate's wife stuff. Apparently she told him upfront at the start of his political career that she would not attend official state functions, and that worked OK in Vermont, he just went alone or with a friend. Heck, in NY city when Giuliani's marriage broke up, he went alone or eventually with the girlfriend. That played OK in the Northeast. I bet it won't in the South and large parts of the West.
