Sadly, you can sell anything to Bubba, if it is packaged properly- almost all elitist writers of fiction which feature repressive totalitarian societies, and most communist revolutionaries know that. Under the law they ARE exactly like me, no matter how stupidly they run things, and no matter how many "elitist" constitutional protections they are willing to give up. I can't help but be annoyed with them, and disgusted. Mismanagement and ignorance disgust me, and they always will. Our founding fathers were elitists of high degree. They were intelligent, cultured men, who for some bizarre reason came up with the idea of trying to protect Bubbas from their own worst instincts. Hamilton knew, even when working to form this country, that "the people is rabble". The superior intellects are often right. Bubba doesn't even see the mice until all the grain has been eaten. You've got to work with Bubbas, and I certainly wouldn't harm them in any way, but short sightedness vexes me. Not much I can do about that.
