Considering the amount of time you'll be sitting in front of them, fatigue is the primary factor!

My desk is 28 by 64 with a 21 by 60 return on the right side (not convertible).

I keep the desk/return about 10 inches from the wall, which allows me to push the monitors back, freeing up space for my notebook, trade log book, newspapers and whatever else lands there. I've also found that getting the monitor a little further away reduces eye fatigue for me, but I'm sure that's a personal preference influenced strongly by the age of the eye...

LCD's will get me back that 10 inches of office space.

At this point, I want to keep this desk, purely because I'm too comfortable with the set up to expend any energy changing. (Besides, my children were conceived here (ggg). NOT. I probably wouldn’t have any children if I’d been trading back then, considering how irritated the significant other gets over the time investment of trading...)
