If you can read this,
I got the internet running on my new machine.

I got it to run before, but I didn't know how I did it. So I started over from a reformat. I carefully set it back to the state (according to the data displayed in every menu I could find) but it would not work. I have two devices, a network card and a firewire card which the XP thought could be connections. Whatever changes I made to the network was applied instead to the firewire. Major bug. Even when I applied to each other or both I couldn't get to the internet. I finally did the last step I did before. I took my wife's laptop (which was setup by the IT at her work and runs XP) and copied the routing information from it. It tried to route through a VPN which I didn't have to servers that I didn't have permission for, but I let it try and fail. Then I set it back to the IP addresses for my home and it worked just fine. There is a really strange bug in XP Pro, but heck that's just Microsoft for you.

So far no insites into my cdrom/game problem.
