Robert,
Thank you for the further explanation. I still am having a hard time with your translation. Lets look at your interpretation of the verse again...
<<The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as "scoffers" understand slowness. He is patient with "the elect of God", not wanting "the elect of God" to perish, but "the elect of God" to come to repentance.>>
Your opinion is, " Peter is simply stating to the Church, that the promised return of the Lord Jesus Christ, being imminent to occur in some of thier lifetimes, would not happen until all those whom God has chosen have been saved. "
Do you believe in salvation by predestination alone? If you do, aren't you saved before birth? Would the timing of the return of Christ really have to wait until all being saved are saved? It's already happened with a orthodox belief of predestination. Or do you consider being chosen and your being saved two separate events?
Thanks for this conversation. I am learning a lot about how your personal belief that the return of Christ already happened can really start having a wide spread effect on the interpretation of scripture, as it had for you. It really helps me understand more...
