Dale, maybe it is because we Americans had felt protected
here on our own continent, far removed from Europe and the Middle East.

I'm not sure, but I don't think we will easily accept the same level of terrorism that Europe does as an acceptable risk to live with.

We will likely do whatever is necessary to reduce that risk.

After 9/11 - Bush said he'd go after terrorists wherever they were in the world. One plan would have been to go after them in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, etc, etc. Edit - Pakistan too of course...
I thought that was what he might be doing actually - and that could work - with the obvious negatives like collateral damage ;-)

But - we opted for Afghanistan and Iraq.
