The Symantec Blues

Symantec may have a very long day on their hands. There's an apparent problem with the latest automatic patch (live update) to their Norton Antivirus 2003 program. I've been hearing from systems administrators and the bug appears to be freezing computers all over the country. No mea culpa or solution showing up on the SYMC site yet.

Symantec Blues Temporary Fix
1/08/04 01:40 PM ET

Thanks for all of your emails on the Norton AntiVirus mind boggler. It's obviously affecting many RealMoney subscribers today. A reader offers the following temporary fix after grilling SYMC this morning. I tried it and it works.
Remember this is only temporary. SYMC needs to fix the problem in its code: Go to Internet Options on control panel or off the dropdown tools bar from IE, go to the Advanced Tab, scroll down to Ssecurity and uncheck the first item "Check for publisher's certification revocation."
