OT:

There are a few points in there I agree with. The first being that NCLB is underfunded, and that it is a common tactic for Bush to speak large and then come up short when it comes to funding a program. That should get more exposure.

Accountability is good, but I think there should be some admission that there is not a level playing field. Inner city schools have a bigger challenge. They many times have less funding, and they have bigger challenges in the social environment they are acting within. To me it seems like it would be a breeze to teach in a suburb with a good school district (like where I live) as opposed to an inner city where there are poverty problems, hunger problems violence problems, etc, etc ad nauseum. So why should they both be graded as though they were equal? IMO that is inherently unfair. Not only that but it appears to me that the inner city schools with the low funding will be penalized by their lack of "performance" on the tests, and will loose further funding. Educational darwinism I think will result in the death of schools in areas with the most hardships. So my question is: Is this cheaper or more expensive than building more prisons in the long run?
