I agree with russwinter when he expressed his opinion that there is no practical difference between the $US and YEN, because Japan Inc. is simply a proxy for the dollar, and has no independent monetary policy. The EURO zone has a different view. But getting the rest of the world to follow the EURO is obviously a big challenge, and potentially costly.

In the end, it probably doesn't matter, because they are all fiat currencies. It is just of matter of degree of irresponsibility that determines who wins or loses imho.
