In America, it is not necessary to convince you personally. 51% of the people is enough.

That was not at issue. I'm not expecting anyone to convince me personally. I was 1) offering a perspective to help explain the polarization on this issue and 2) suggesting that the Administration would be wise to alter it's communication.

Polarization isn't a good thing, IMO. Unnecessary polarization is really dumb. Sure 51 percent is enough to get reelected. If that's all one cares about, then that's good enough. If one cares about the country, one makes a reasonable effort to unite. It is both nice and smart and interesting, as well, to try to communicate and to build an understanding of and rapport with people unlike oneself. I think that applies both at the personal level and at the political level. It continues to amaze me now many people care only about sharing backslaps with their own kind and hopefully having a sufficient majority to ram their own approach down everyone else's throat.

Anyone looking at this list will agree with your assertion that Islamism needs to be addressed as part of the problem.

Well, of course. That goes without saying. What I was arguing was 1) we should quit framing it as a war on terror if that's not what it is and 2) recognition that it's a war on Islamicism doesn't not necessarily imply invading Iraq.
