he issue is much deeper than your post suggests.

There are troubles in the Middle East due to the rather ancient Shia/Sunni split, the conquest by the Mongels, and the poorly engineered breakup of the Ottoman empire. They all pale in comparison to the turmoil in Israel/Palestine. That is a constant and repeating poke in the eye.

The invasion of Iraq was a bad idea, not because there may have been reasons to think that Iraq had WMDs, but because no real effort was made to find out. Junior rushed the war when it became clear that Saddam was going to let the UN look around and see that regardless of what Clinton, or Cheney, or the Portuguese news may have thought - there was no WMDs.

The WMD search is now only important because it proves that Bush and Co. lied to start the war , most likely so they could conquer the oil fields. My only surprise is that they haven't flown over some weapons and planted them.
