Many things are different now than the last time we had stagflation. The incredible surge of imports from China, which until now has held their currency in lock step with the dollar, has been a major factor. More recent trends to outsource service IT and related jobs to India is increasing in importance. The overall low capacity utilization has been a factor. It is easy to mask problems in the short-run, but hard to do in the long run.
