Ya'alon: we may have to attack Syria again
By JPOST.COM STAFF

Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Moshe Ya'alon warned that recent Syrian overtures towards Israel, Turkey and the US – made under duress – mean nothing, and that the IDF may have to strike at Syria again if it does not curtail assistance, finding and refuge to terrorist organizations.

Speaking at the Haifa Universtiy's National Security Research Center assembly, he claimed that part of the pressure was US strategy, part Israeli threat and part payment for supporting the Saddam regime in Iraq.

Ya'alon also said that his constant dilemma was whether to strike at "ticking bombs", perhaps prompting an attack, or wait for that bomb to explode and then "be right". This was in part a result of Israel's indecision in defining the character of the struggle with the Palestinians, which encumbers the legitimacy of potential anti-terror activities.
