I agree the unmanned stuff gives way more bank for the buck. I wasn't surprised that we met Kennedys challenge, I was very surprised that we haven't been back in 30 years. The Moon seems a waste of time to me, all water needed will have to be taken with us. Mars may have it's own water. If it does, a permanent base there, or even a colony would be possible. Before we go to Mars, we need a permanent space station and a replacement for the shuttle, both of which are way overdue.
