Do you think that's possible? I think we'll always be able to find reasons not to explore. Why not do both? Our manned missions captured the worlds imagination 30 years ago, why not do it as a global thing now. I would bet that you could get enough voluntary, donated money worldwide to get us to Mars. Turn NASA into the a model like the Dean campaign.
All America may be remembered for in 500 years is going to the Moon and the atom bomb.
