Edscharp,

The current Administration is very strong on national defense & pre-emptive strategy. I heard one of Repubs former policy makers state that 9/11 convinced the Right that we can no longer wait & simply react to moves by aggressive individuals, groups, countries. This new space initiative proposal followed closely on heels of Chinese space activities seems to indicate that Bush Adm suspects Chinese program has ulterior motives. Washington knows the Democrats have always used Star Wars as a tool to bash what they consider foolish spending, so it was not described in that way. The Star Wars technology pobably significantly overlaps with innocent space exploration cover. I agree with current Adm that it would be foolish to allow China to gain major advantage with that type of technology. This is type of issue that makes upcoming 2004 election decision so difficult. We need those strong on defense BUT they're domestic policies are a disaster.
