Given the circumstances, I think it is a practical solution...
Unfortunately it is too late, but better than current policy, and far better than many of the "solutions" proposed by the neo-nazi wing of the Republican party. I remember from the Kennedy’s "bracero" program, (a term labeling the person that went to the US side for work), all these programs have never really work.
Today the sheer number of inhabitants is simply overwhelming and you are not going to stop them by "blocking them" it is too late and it is not a simple problem.
The need to develop a viable economic environment in BOTH sides of the border is a MUST, otherwise, even this new idea will not work, on the other hand, this will assure the growth of the Hispanic population and it will probably assure the increase of their political power.
The problem is that there is no rational alternative, other than creating the opportunity to work in BOTH sides.
I believe that the American and Mexicans ought to work in a real partnership to counter the Chinese competition that is coming. Better, not only Mexico, but the rest of Latin America should truly be a single economic block...
As much as I would like to see a libertarian in power, I doubt that it will happen.
By definition, Libertarians cut their own chances of winning... since true Libertarians call for less government, true Laissez Faire ideology works only under a very limited size goverment...
Unless the people stop believing that the government owes them something and ought to "provide" this or that...
I seriously doubt the people will ever go for that... I am talking about the great majorities...
Democracy, as Mencken puts it, is the only amusing form of government that men can endure... but, after all... as he says, it is the running of government by orgy, almost by orgasm -ggg.
The problem is that we are becoming far too many and even worse, the dumb and dumber reproduce faster than those who are productive... so with that prospect looming...
The alternative I see is that the individuals will figure out a way to survive the ensuing high taxation that will come once the Republicans lose control of power, (not only the presidency but also Congress...)
Luckily, for the time being, it does not look probable, since the Democrazies are so lost...
My only problem with the republicans is the right wing-nuts... I simply fail miserably in understanding their logic...
However, in time, the Democrats chance will return... it is a cycle... it is called the pendulum and it swings from right to left and vice versa... for now, it is swinging to the right tanks to Clintoris... eventually this may change...
Bankrupting the country.... well... so long politicians (regardless of affiliation), continue to do what they do.... which is merely suck the life of those who are PRODUCERS, they will try and try....
Ironically, I do believe that immigration will give the US the power to pay the future bills due under the baby-boomer generation retiring years... aided by the power of this economy, whose infrastructure is phenomenally productive.
Once again, I believe that it is a window of opportunity to create the fighting chance against the explosion of economic power that is upon us from South East Asia...
But much will depend on how the general population reacts to the needed drastic changes that will have to take place... if they chose the paternalistic route of the Europeans.... then we are truly doomed... time to say bye, bye...
Indeed, I believe that we, as investors ought to become more educated in other markets... my own preference is beach real estate in selected regions... just in case... |
