I'm not sure if the Xentera GT4 AGP supports rotation in hardware. (It has two ATI Radian 9000 chips).
The Samsungs do come with rotation software (Pivot Pro), though. I do not know to what extent the software uses any hardware rotation feature, and, if so, for what controller chips.
I had thought of the same thing - rotating the 4 screens 90 degrees - as well.
I think that seeing "Samsung" sideways on the left bezel of 4 monitors would drive me nuts, though. :)
Seriously, though, what caused me to reject the idea is that it's not a good aspect ratio for working with Visual Studio.
But maybe I should do some fiddling.
In it's default configuration, Visual Studio has a central area where you work with text files, tool-bars on the left, menu and tool bars at the top, search results and compiler errors at the bottom, tabbed explorers to the right. (e.g. files, objects, resources...)
It's pretty busy!
If you kept the same configuration, a vertical orientation would really squeeze the text area. You'd have to scroll constanty to see the full width of your code.
But perhaps I could rearrange it so that there is nothing on the sides. All this stuff is dockable toolbars.
But the explorers definately work best in a vertical orientation. I don't think they would work well at the bottom.
The other problem I see is that this configuration maximizes the interference from the bezels. That is, there are more square inches of bezel where you'd rather have pixels. |
