So in response we could get Tim Berners-Lee to head, or at least figure-head, a movement to open up their access .... how do you make contact with individual cubanos, is the thing ..... disguise ourselves as normal tourist-type human beings, invade Cuba armed with a little cash and a few ideas and little else, keep asking for net access to check our email or stocks or whatever, keep venturing a little past where the regime wants you to go, and mention the internet in every place it will fit a conversation ... this is what i keep coming back to, don't think any other method will work ..... change has to come from cubanos themselves, it can't be imposed from outside .... probably due to the history US nationals should tread lightly in this quarter, which leaves the Rest of Us with a greater responsibility
My wife and i used to help a community arts group with hosting and translation for hispano travelling performers, i tried one time to answer one member's question by email [as he had asked me to do, and provided his email address] .... a long story followed, in which it became apparent that direct contact between individuals was prohibited, and he later said that my attempt made problems for him ..... at the same time, he defended the system quite strongly, in private to me, had all sorts of justifications and no will to look beyond them .... this was a dance troupe, el Ciervo Encantado, it's worth seeing if you ever get the chance, something like Cirque du Soleil [sp?] but more dancey than gymnastic .... their act was pretty clear political allegory, it was called El Elefante Ocupa Mucho Espacio, lol |
