The Israeli right just held a large demonstration in Tel Aviv, protesting Sharon's proposed unilateral disengagement:
Right-wing rally at Rabin Square By JPOST.COM STAFF
Organizers announced Sunday night's rally in Tel Aviv's Rabin Square an unprecedented success. In a press release, officials stated that they proved most Likud factions object to Sharon's plan for unilateral disengagement and the removal of settlements.
"Sharon," they say, "does not have a mandate to his plan of retreat. This rally has opened a public struggle that will pervade the following months."
Tel Aviv region police commander Yossi Sitbon told Ynet that the rally had been extremely well organized, taking into account the large number of people who had arrived – many more than had been expected, he said.
The right wing rally held on Sunday evening at Rabin Square in Tel Aviv began one hour late at 8 PM Sunday evening.
And although 15 minutes before it was due to start, channel 2 news reported a crowd of only 15,000, by 8:45 pm, organizers claimed 100,000 people were in attendance.

Now I start a favorite pastime: looking for coverage of the rally in the New York Times. Every time Peace Now can scrape together 10,000 people, it's on the NYT front page, but rallies from the right are a different matter. If the NYT is true to form, there will be one paragraph buried deep in a story about IDF raids. I'll let you know. |
