Kerry, wasn't that Bill Shakespeare who said it was better to be neither a borrower nor lender? Ben Franklin must have been just quoting him.

It's all well and good not to do either, but leveraging a good idea is where the big profits lie. Debt and derivatives are a great achievement of the late 20th century, bringing the future into the present.

Our great and wonderful hero, Uncle Al KBE, has managed the monetary markets splendidly for a couple of decades now and continues to do so. But I wish he'd hurry up and start increasing interest rates. Just a nudge or two to set the tone. It'll probably be his last major move so he probably wants to savour the occasion and perhaps defer the move until the election of King George II is safely out of the way.
