Given the circumstances, I think it is a practical solution...
Yeah, but given the circumstances, so was every other "amnesty". Are the Mexicans so dumb that if you keep doing this, they will not figure out that if they can just get across the border and keep from getting caught long enough, they will be US citizens?

And, yes, I know this one doesn't offer citizenship. A technical detail to be worked out later.

NOW: If the Mexican gov't is willing to offer American citizens the same rights there citizens here legally enjoy- -working in the country with no delay, ownership of land, ability to open a business with no requirement that at least 50+% of the ownership be in native hands- -then I would say BOTH countries should throw open the border and let goods and people move freely.

But if they are going to manipulate the game to their advantage, to **** with them. At that point, I take what you would probably consider a "neo-nazi Republican" position: station the US Army (once we get it back from Iraq) along the southern border with orders to shoot to kill. Nothing short of that will stop illegal immigration.

But if the Mexican gov't will play as fairly with our citizens as we do theirs, then I say let's form a partnership and bankrupt China. :-)

it is too late and it is not a simple problem.
The Democratic Party assured that it would not be a simple problem. Many years ago they ganged up with some Latino political groups to hamstring the Border Patrol to get as many Latinos as possible across that border. Then you legalize them and make them citizens and voters. Which, of course, now makes the problem even harder, since more Democrats in favor of this process get elected and can put more pressure on INS. And now Jorgito has joined the game.

Let's do the diplomacy with the Mexican gov't first, OK?

As much as I would like to see a libertarian in power, I doubt that it will happen.
Libertarians could teach CA Republicans lessons in political suicide. :-)

Don't cite Ahnie as a counterexample. He ain't. He's proof of what I say. If he had had to go through the standard CA GOP vetting process, no one would even remember his name now. At least not for political reasons.

Luckily, for the time being, it does not look probable, since the Democrazies are so lost...
Hmmmm.
The economy stumbles. It may be on its way.
Jorgito already has Iraq around his neck.
So ......

My only problem with the republicans is the right wing-nuts...
Which ones? They come in more than one flavor. :-)

my own preference is beach real estate in selected regions
Underground bunkers?

Jorj could be right about "Kondratieff winter".
