"But I see alternative methods to war"
So did I, and so did President Bush. But when the U.N. issues resolutions that were ignored, and then did not enforce them (with the encouragement of France, Russia and Germany in particular) someone needed to step up and get rid of the dictator. If those countries would have backed us (and the U.N resolutions) up, Saddam would have seen he had no choice and war most likely could have been avoided. They chose to side with their customer and avidly worked to undermine the U.S., which bolstered his confidence to continue to ignore the resolutions.
"Then if you want to destroy Terror, you need to attack terrorists. Saddam was not part of Al Qaeda"
He hated the U.S., had and used chem and bio weapons, and was next door to the place they used to train. The combination was too dangerous.
"You must be one of the 7"
You must be very proud to be so much smarter than everyone else. He was not directly related to the 9-11-01 attack, but was too great a danger to leave up to the U.N., France, Germany and Russia. I really wish they would have sided with us, but they chose to support Saddam instead. Oh well.
If you you truly believe it would have been better to follow the U.N. and let Saddam stay, so be it. It appears from this post that you have at least thought about it, and I will refrain from insinuating you are in sympathy with the terrorist. I do strongly believe you are wrong, and in the next few years I think you will see a more stable middle east (and world). With a lot fewer terrorists, and a lot more prosperous and free people. |
