ld-

yep.

i missed the first story because of feetsballs.
i've been hearing it for three days anyway and
knew it since forever (but i still wanted to see it).

i liked the other two that i did watch and reacted
the same as you. america is so NOT READY to hear
that there's a global economy and good old capitalism
is calling the shots on global integration faster
than a social movement ever could. bill clinton
understands this all too well and was constantly
explaining to us how america could play a very
sucessful role in the transition. it may be too
late now.

i'm not sure if any of the current candidates see it
very clearly. maybe they do but they're sure not
talking about it -- probably for fear of losing
popularity with voters. the cheapest labor in the
world is going to get the jobs. the bright spots
are -- that products and services are going to be
cheaper and the third world populations will get
an economic boost -- but there's going to be the
age old monopoly problem and corporate greed still
to be dealt with and it's got to be done with
international law. capitalism is a great motivator
and offers huge rewards to the best entrepreneurs
but the end result is that eventually one entity
ends up with all the assets.

maybe the key is to tax free enterprise enough
that it pays for society's basic necessities but
not so much that it destroys the incentive to profit.
that's an extremely hard balance to strike and doing
it on a global scale is not yet possible.

americans are so NOT READY to compete with asia
and latin america for jobs... but i don't know
how it can be said any more clearly -- "Geography
is history".

nationalism and war is no solution... "it's the economy,
stupid." <g>

humanity and civilization still have a lot of growing
to do. it should be a very interesting century.
