You'll probably still need each of those after VoIP if you need them today.

The only real difference that I see is there can now be effective competition for the regular phone in those homes that have a high speed Internet connection - ADSL, wireless or Cable.

And from anywhere in N.America with a high speed Internet connection, it might be nice to be able to continue calling/receiving calls as if you were in your home location. i.e. - no long distance charges involved for you or for callers.
