Colin Powell is Secretary of State. His job is not to
clandestinely or otherwise investigate ties to terrorism

Nobody is asking him to spend his time collecting proof.

The CIA & other intelligence agencies do that.

Agreed.

They had many ties between Saddam & terrorists, including Al Qaeda.

No "they" did not. Powell has admitted this, Bush has admitted and now so will you (hope springs eternal).

As for your links, please be reminded that both Bush AND now Powell have said there is no proof to a Saddam/Al-Qaeda connection. I assume they know more than you do and won't waste time reading those links.

Many of those ties were highly classified & could not be made public, including to Colin Powell for his Speech to the UN

Really? Like SOOOOOO SECRET that they could not be shown to Colin Powell and Bush???

There is NO such "secret" proof that US Secretary of State and US President cannot see, ESPECIALLY regarding serious allegations on a country US was to go to war with.

BTW, here's what Secretary Powell actually said, in his own words....

SECRETARY POWELL: There is not -- you know, I have not seen smoking-gun, concrete evidence about the connection, but I think the possibility of such connections did exist and it was prudent to consider them at the time that we did.

That is pathetic. So, basically, there was NO CONCRETE EVIDENCE re connection between Iraq and Al-Qaeda, and yet Powell went to US SecCouncil and LIED that there WAS evidence of a such connection.

HERE are his exact words:
-------------------------------------------------------
After studying intelligence data, he claimed, the administration had found a "sinister nexus" existed "between Iraq and the Al Qaeda terrorist network, a nexus that combines classic terrorist organizations and modern methods of murder."
.
Without any additional qualifiers, Powell continued then: "Iraq today harbors a deadly terrorist network, headed by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, an associate and collaborator of Osama bin Laden and his Al Qaeda lieutenants."
.
He added: "Iraqi officials deny accusations of ties with Al Qaeda. These denials are simply not credible."
----------------------------------------------------

Maybe you don't remember those days, but there was NO talk of "We don'e have proof but we FEEL or THINK there might be a connection". They were all "There IS proof. Saddam and Al-Qaeda ARE linked".

Now Powell is coming out saying, well, there was no proof but he said there were ties between Iraq and Al-Qaeda anyway. Sweet.

As an American citizen, you should be pissed off that your administration has taken your country to war, killed hundreds of American citizens (not to mention thousands of Iraqis), based on LIES.

Instead, you make excuses.

What do they need to do for you to open your eyes? How many lies need to be exposed? How many countries need to be invaded? Do you even CARE that US bombed another country back to the stone age, killed 7,000 civilians, and is currently occupying the said country based on a load of LIES?
