Birim Goldfields Inc.: Drilling Continues to Expand High-Grade Tombe-Parabu Gold Discovery, Ghana; Gold Mineralization Remains Open Along Strike
Tuesday January 13, 9:06 am ET

MONTREAL, CANADA--Birim Goldfields Inc. (BGI: TSX) ("Birim" or the "Company") is pleased to report that continued reverse circulation ("RC") drilling on its Bui Property in Ghana, West Africa, has extended the strike length of the previously announced Tombe-Parabu North gold discovery by 70 metres to the south of the original discovery hole (see figure 1). Drill hole CTR-191, located along line 27050 N, intersected a steep to moderately dipping pyritized, silicified zone which returned 9.67 grams per tonne gold over a length of 17 metres starting from 37 metres down hole (see table 1). The intersection of high-grade gold mineralization in RC drill hole CTR-191 extends the known strike extent of Tombe-Parabu North gold discovery to 150 metres.
"The success of extending gold mineralization to the north and now to the south of the discovery hole at Tombe-Parabu North is extremely encouraging" reported Mr. Denis Simoneau, President and CEO of Birim. "Now the priority is to determine the size of this new gold discovery. We are certainly pleased with the excellent grades and significant widths over what are now three consecutive drill sections."

Table 1 summarizes the significant drill results for seventeen RC holes (1,359 metres) from the balance of the 2003 reconnaissance drilling program. Infill drilling on lines 26300N (CTR 193 to CTR 200) and 26000N (CTR 201 to CTR 203) in the central portion of Tombe-Parabu North confirmed the presence of significant gold mineralization within multiple zones, which will be defined with further drilling.

To date, three RC drill holes have intersected the Tombe-Parabu North gold discovery. The discovery hole, CTR-127, drilled along line 27100 N, returned two significant gold intersections: 4.47 grams per tonne over 17 metres commencing at 22 metres down hole and 2.90 grams per tonne over 11 metres starting at 47 metres down hole. CTR-186, drilled along line 27150 N, cut 18.38 grams per tonne gold over 6 metres starting at 36 metres down hole along with a second interval grading 6.66 grams per tonne gold over 2 metres at a depth of 71 metres. The high-grade gold system remains open to the north and partially the south.

Considering the success of the 2003 drilling program, a minimal program consisting of at least 5,000 additional metres of RC drilling has been commissioned to further determine the extent of the Tombe-Parabu North Gold Zone, as well to follow up on numerous intersections of gold mineralization elsewhere on the Tombe-Parabu North and Tombe-Parabu South anomalies.

Two to three kilogram samples collected for each metre drilled (under the supervision of internationally recognized exploration consultants RSG Global Pty Ltd) were submitted for each metre. Samples were submitted to Transworld Laboratories in Tarkwa, Ghana for assaying. Richard Hyde (BSc, MAIG), Manager for RSG Global in West Africa and a Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101, supervised and directed all work associated with the RC drill program.

In addition, a diamond drilling campaign is currently being planned out and is due to commence on key target zones on the Bui District in the near future. Several thousands of metres of RC drilling will be required to verify the potential of these top priority targets.
