It's sad how the union is apparently succeeding to a certain extent in fooling the public on the reason for the strike. (see my previous post for "the real reason for the strike"). There's a story in the WSJIE now that may get in Thursday's print edition, which says that according to pollsters, more people are siding with the UPS drivers. Well sure, nobody wants ill fortune on their friendly local UPS driver, which they wave to and say hi to.

But the fact is, I do believe that the majority of UPS workers' hearts are not in this strike. According to one caller to a radio talk show who was a striking UPS worker, 95% of her fellow workers wanted to go back to work now. Also, another thing that's not being reported much is that it sounds like when the "authorizing vote" was taken, only a minority of workers even went to the union meeting. When you have only the firebrand people attending the meeting, it's not surprising the vote was affirmative. If you're content with your job, why bother with union meetings? According to a former union member friend of mine, union meetings are extremely boring, and a large % of members don't go to them.
