Will you promise to ship us a French party? We're short on voodoo dolls. :-)

Yeah, I can think of some really FINE examples of multiparty systems. Italy ANY time it's a democracy. France between the wars when its multiparty system produced such paralysis that it sat there and watched Hitler re-arm and get ready to invade it and did nothing effective. (Maginot Line? "Fixed fortifications are monuments to the stupidity of man."- -US General George Patton).

And Mr. Chamberlain playing to the press and galleries during the late 1930's.

Then, of course, there was that famous triumph of multiparty parliamentary democracy that brought Herr Hitler to the German chancelloeship- -which he then leveraged into dictatorship.

What you neglect to mention is that paralysis is a common failing of parliamentary systems. You may criticize "black and white" all you wish, but generally American gov'ts don't sit by and watch obvious problems that are going to destroy the nation get worse.
