Hi Eric,
Got the survey filled out already, will send tomorow!
Actually, I wasn't that sure that GTE was going to start XDSL rollout in my area very soon. I am not in the technology hotbed areas like silicon valley or other locales with the highest percentage of computer users, eventhough still could be considered in the LA metro area. I thought our area were going to get service perhaps in the third or fourth wave of deployment, earliest late 1998. But now I am not so sure, we might just get in earlier. DMT for Xmas, that would be just great for me ;-).
I have noticed that GTE has been getting quite aggresive in expanding their business recently. They are currently very aggressive in the long distance business. I was shoping around for a new long distance carrier (mad at AT&T for charging me too much on my frequent international calls). Found out that LCI was the absolute lowest cost long distance carrier (intl & domestic), so I switched one of my two phone lines (Hey, I'm waiting for XDSL to kill one of them!) to LCI. Just the other day, I got a call from GTE, they offered long distance service. Too my utter surprise, they were offering rock bottom rates that compete neck to neck with LCI. They even offered the same international rates (rock bottom flat rate, same rate 24 Hr 7 days). Soo, I moved my other line to GTE (bye-bye AT&T).
All in all, I am surprised at their aggressiveness. With this current survey, it not difficult to see that they want to be a one stop provider for all kinds of services. I wouldn't be surprised if they turn out to be the most progressive TELCO, in entering the deregulated telco environment of the future. Wouldn't it be great if they were to choose Amati as their partner for the XDSL segment?
Anyways... I WANT My DMT! I want it by/for XMas ;-)
