Iraq wasn't involved with 9/11.
And apparently neither was Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan, right?
These guys just came out of the blue from nowhere, right?...
Popped up on a whim with no outside influence?
Having to contain Saddam and enforce sanctions against Iraq played no role, right?
You're interested in selling me a bridge, right?
And no.. my position has not changed on the use of US military forces. But I'm not in charge, now am I?
I would not have US forces sitting out in the streets. I would find local power figures, tell them they are in charge until found unfit, or replaced in general elections, and let them set up their own police forces, answerable to coalition authorities if found corrupt or abusive.
Then I would back them up with US military power when they required it to maintain civil law and order...
But US troops are not trained to be policemen.. And it's even harder when fellow UN members, especially the permanent members, have failed to meet their obligations, following their 15-0 vote..
It's likely that they voted in that manner with a deliberate scheme to "set up" the Bush administration as being unilaterialists and trying to subvert Bush's popularity at home and controlling the upcoming US elections.. Because it's obvious... they don't like Bush's policies, or his demeanor as someone who seems to mean what he says (at least with regard to Iraq).
But he's calling their bluff, taking the heat, and turning the table slowly on them..
And as a result, we're seeing more activity towards peace and disarmament in the region than we've ever see before.
