He hit it right on. The decision was clearly and totally political. And it PO'ed me to the point that I will most likely vote Libertarian.

Getting at one of his points, why should Bush need Congressional approval to tighten border control? The Border Patrol is part of the executive branch and under his control. He might need Congress for more funding, but given 911 are they likely to refuse?

There are 2 parts to the problem. One is what to do about all the illegals already here. The standard answer is "Well, we can't just deport them!" We can't? What are we paying all those taxes for law enforcement for then? But even given that, and saying that Bush is attempting to answer that part of the problem, it's still only half.

The other half is effective border control so that we don't end up in this situation again in 10 or 15 years. He did not even admit there was an issue there. And I don't think it was an accident, but rather
the strong need of business and agri-business to keep the cheap labor flowing.
